I have been absent from the blogging world for weeks now. My free time has been consumed with preliminary wedding planning. Thankfully the past weekend provided a much welcomed escape with the annual girl’s weekend with all my college friends from Salem College. We have a group of eight girls who get together at least once a year and then many of us have opportunities to catch up throughout the year in groupings of two or three. I would say that most of us correspond through e-mail or by phone several times a week. Our group has expanded since college with the addition of two adorable little girls.
Anytime you have a combination of eight people you get an interesting mix of personalities and opinions. Some of us are conservative while some are more liberal, some are religious and others a bit more spiritual. We come from a variety of family backgrounds anywhere from your traditional family unit to homes of divorce and single parents. There are those of us with siblings and those without.
Despite everything there is something that pulls each of us together. We embrace honesty that I dare say you find with many others. We discuss things that many of us admit we would be unlikely to share with others. Regardless, of differing opinions or views, other commitments, or distance there is a draw that causes us to put our regular routines on hold for one weekend and reunite. I hope that we continue to make this get together a priority. I know that I always leave the weekend feeling like it flew by, a bit tired from the late nights, bloated from lots of good food and drinks, but also inspired and refueled for all that life throws at me each day.
