Road Trip

On Friday, I hopped in my car and headed North to visit one of my close friends from college. Fortunately I stay in touch with about 7 women from college on a regular basis and I have the opportunity to see many of them several times a year. Everytime I take a roadtrip I am reminded of how I enjoy the freedom that the open road provides. I also love the anticipation of getting where I am headed or if no specific destination is in mind I enjoy pondering where I may end up.

After about 5 hours in my car I arrived in Richmond, VA and was greeted my one of my favorite ladies. After quickly freshening up we hopped in the car and headed to Can Can Brasserie. We arrived at the perfect time as suddenly two seats opened at the bar. I began with their basil martini and let me tell you it was delicious. The martini was followed by many more drinks, appetizers such as a cheese tray & scallops, great conversation, and laughter. After many hours we headed home for more of the same minus the scallops and cheese tray and insert a delivery of pizza late night.

On Saturday morning we got up and headed to my friend's families farm about forty five minutes outside of Richmond. This was my second trip to their farm and it was certainly a relaxing trip. Some of my friend's family was there as well. We spent our time by the pool, catching up on all the latest celebrity gossip (her mom provided a stock pile of magazines), shopping at the outlets in Williamsburg, Va, eating, napping, sipping on health drinks as her uncle called them with a splash of rum of course! Here are several more shots from the farm...

The photo above was the site where we had cocktail hour with both my friend's mother and grandmother. They are both really interesting woman with amazing stories to tell. From growing up in San Francisco, to attending Stanford, traveling the world, working on cattle ranches, picking up and moving east the stories echoed through the fields. Women never cease to amaze and inspire me. We ended a great weekend back in Richmond at Cafe Caturra which is a coffee/wine bar with a patio on the front as well as the back, an outdoor fireplace, and delicious looking food. We shared a bottle of wine and discussed the upcoming trips we are planning together to San Francisco & the Napa Valley as well as to Vegas. I am thankful for great friends, good times, and much to look forward to!

Man! That sounds like a perfect trip, Heather. I wish I had more freedom to do things like that sometimes.
